The Power Of Storytelling

Storytelling is universal and is as ancient as humankind. Before there was writing, there was storytelling. It occurs in every culture and from every age. It exists (and existed) to entertain, to inform, and to promulgate cultural traditions and values.

Stories help us feel a greater sense of connection to one another. Stories can increase our empathy and often help reinforce our highest ideals such as compassion and kindness. As we connect with the characters in a story, our brain releases oxytocin, often known as the “bonding” or “love” hormone. The newest research in neuroscience shows what brain structures are stimulated while sharing stories and gives numerous answers on how storytelling affects the brain.

Changing the narrative – changes our thinking patterns, changing the metaphor being the basis of the story – can literally change our mindset.

Beyond Fear of Failure and Fear of Judgement – The Leap of Faith

Have you ever been so afraid of failing at something that you decided not to try it at all? Even things you really wanted to do or achieve? Or has the fear of failure meant that, subconsciously, you undermined your own efforts to avoid the possibility of a larger failure? Many of us have probably experienced this at one time or another.

The fear of failing or fear of other people’s judgement can be immobilising – it can cause us to do nothing, and therefore resist moving forward. For some of us the fear of failure can show up as fear of judgement – ”What do other people think if I do this or that”. It has done it, for sure, for me as well. Both fear of failure and fear of judgement can stop our forward progress in life, career, business and entrepreneurship. Then we are likely to miss some great opportunities along the way. Mind Coaching, Exploring the power of our mind and The Three Principles philosophy give some guidance to the topic at hand.
